Maybe I have the wrong impression but isn't Australia kinda infamous for their censorship laws? Which --- again it's my impression -- they are also kinda lax about enforcing?

I read somewhere this morning that Gaetz tried to get a preemptive pardon from Trump while Trump was still president. Anybody else see that?

ETA: It was in the NYT: https://www.nytimes....ump-pardon.html

Yeah, I think AnBr has it right. It doesn't make sense to lay our current condition entirely at the doorstep of Boomers. The oldest Boomers would have been what, about 30 in 1980? The hippies were voting for Reagan, were they? If anything, you could argue that they tried to stem the tide and failed (quite miserably in fact).

Now, you COULD argue the real turning point was in the early 90s instead of 1980, so maybe it has fuller explanatory power in that case. I personally would argue that this is a phenomena that began much earlier and you have to include the silent generation at a minimum.

I think people use neoliberalism when they want to encompass both the economic philosophy and political policy choices that support it. Just calling it capitalism doesn't convey the political choice aspects of it.

Support of capitalism/free markets is generally considered one of the defining characteristics of classical liberalism. Not in the current conservative/liberal dichotomy that dominates US politics, of course, but in the more general historical liberalism vs. conservatism debate.

Still, I think it's a stupid name.

I guess using bonkers and Scott Adams in the same paragraph is kind of natural.
