If you haven't already heard Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and has directed the State Dept. to start preparing to move the U.S. embassy there. Not in the article but I heard a snippet of him saying it would help move the peace process forward. Yeah, I know. That's even more WTF than usual for him and that's saying a lot.

Well now we see what everybody with half a brain and the tiniest bit of understanding of the situation saw coming from a mile away.

Quote

Clashes between hundreds of Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops erupted across the West Bank on Thursday while demonstrators in Gaza burned posters of President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Israeli and U.S. flags.

The leader of the Hamas militant group, which runs Gaza, called for a new armed uprising in a widespread show of anger over Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

In the West Bank, crowds of protesters set tires on fire and hurled stones at anti-riot troops. In the biblical town of Bethlehem, troops fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse a crowd, in clashes that could cloud the upcoming Christmas celebrations in the town of Jesus’ birth. In Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian government, protesters set tires on fire, sending a thick plume of black smoke over the city.

Trump’s dramatic break on Wednesday with decades of U.S. policy on Jerusalem counters long-standing international assurances to the Palestinians that the fate of the city will be determined in negotiations. The Palestinians seek Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, as a future capital.

Palestinians shuttered their schools and shops on Thursday to begin three “days of rage” over Trump’s decision. Rallies were underway in other West Bank cities, and a demonstration was being held outside the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City.

There were no serious casualties reported in Thursday’s clashes. But Friday, the Muslim holy day, could provide an important test when Palestinians gather for weekly mass prayers.

In the Gaza Strip, Hamas’ leader Ismail Haniyeh called on Palestinians to launch a new intifada, or uprising, against Israel on Friday.

“The American decision is an aggression on our people and a war on our sanctuaries,” Haniyeh said in a speech, urging supporters “to be ready for any orders.”

“We want the uprising to last and continue to let Trump and the occupation regret this decision,” he said.

Of course this destroys all American credibility in the region and paints bulls-eyes all over American embassies and personnel. In other words, job well done Vladimir. I suspect you suckered your poodle right into this one.

Not just Vladimir. Netanyahu was probably whispering in Kushner's ear about this.

I wonder if Saudi Arabia had input. The media will stop talking about Saudi actions in Yemen if they have protests in the West Bank to cover. The Arabian world doesn't give two spits about Palestinians other than as a low cost way using them to contest Israel's existence.

I've known about Sheldon Adelson for about 30 years, since he started a huge trade show for the computer industry that I attended every year. It made him the money that bankrolled his casino empire. Adelson is a Israel Firster on meth, and he's always struck me as about as sleazy as Dumpster. When he backed Twitler, that was part of deal. But this move also helps excites the Alabama fundamentalist vote, to push Senator Pedophile to over the top. I think the timing has ALL to do with propping up his 33 percent, and keep them whipped up for when Mueller Time starts to pull back the curtain from their Wizard.

pnwguy is right about a certain segment of the fundamentalist vote. They're expecting the Rapture and war in the Middle East is needed before that happens.

By that measure, it literally could have happened at any time in the last 30 years.

It turns out that the White House Hanukkah Party was tonight. Perhaps the President wanted something to brag about at the event. The Democratic Congress members who happen to be Jews were not invited to the party. The Republican ones were. Leaders of Reform Jewish leaders and other progressives were also not invited.

Well, the Rapture will certainly change the terms of reference. Or move the goal posts. Or something.

The snag is, it may never happen. There are, after all, precedents for it not happening. Or is that in fact a snag?

The U.N. Security Council is meeting over Trump being an asshole.

Quote

The UN Security Council has convened an emergency session to discuss Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a move that has led to deadly clashes in Palestine and strong condemnation from world leaders.

Eight countries called for the emergency meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday, as Palestinians protested across the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza Strip against the US president's decision throughout the day.

Several countries resoundly condemned the US' unilateral move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, including Olof Skoog, Sweden's UN ambassador, who said the decision is fuelling tension and instability in the region.

Nikki Haley desperately spins for Trump trying to say that the reality that everybody predicted shouldn't be reality. Suck it up, buttercup. Your boss doesn't get to control how other people react to his being a douchebag.

Quote

Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, resoundly rejected the criticism from other countries at the meeting, however.

She said with its decision, the US is not advocating for any change in the administration around holy sites in Jerusalem and wants the status quo to remain in place in the city.

"I urge all countries in the Security Council and the Middle East to temper their statements and their actions in the days ahead," Haley said.

Al Jazeera's Mike Hanna, reporting from the UN headquarters, said Haley delivered "a very strong criticism of the United Nations, which she claims has historically been biased against Israel".

"Clearly the ambassador is feeling that the best form of defence, is attack," Hanna said.

The UN Security Council votes on condemnation of Israel naming Jerusalem as its capital. The US is the only holdout. Nikki Haley is forced to publicly make a fool of herself defending Trump's moronic decision by whining that everybody else is wrong and aren't helping the situation. Giiirrrrrl, seriously? Did a bit of you just die when you had to say something that ridiculous out loud?

Quote

The US has angrily blocked a UN Security Council resolution rejecting President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The 14 other members of the council voted in favour of a motion proposed by Egypt that said any decisions over the status of Jerusalem be rescinded.

The US's ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley was not amused:

"What we witnessed here today in the Security Council is an insult. It won't be forgotten. It's one more example of the United Nations doing more harm than good in addressing the Israeli Palestinian conflict."

The UN vote further isolates Washington over its recent unilateral move concerning Jerusalem which has outraged the Palestinians.

In contrast Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a thank yout message on social media to the US for standing firm saying its ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley had "lit a candle of truth" and dispelled "lies."

Anyone in her position would probably do the same thing. I don't think it's any worse than Colin Powell presenting the trumped up (I crack myself up) case for invading Iraq.

I gave her huge credit back when she was governor for recognizing how horrible it looked to have the Stars and Bars appearing to be flying on the grounds of the South Carolina State House after the shooting in the church. I don't know what her current position says about her and her innermost thoughts on things. Maybe it was just political expedience back then, as it might be now.

I think you've emphasized my point. Somebody working for a normal President wouldn't be forced to say something that stupid. Both she and Powell went to work for awful Presidents where they had to parrot pure crap. Powell came away badly tarnished. Haley will too.

Oh, Nikki. Trump goes full metal Israel and Haley goes full metal Trump. At least she's still qualified for a job at Faux News.

Quote

Ambassador Nikki Haley is serving notice the U.S. “will be taking names” on a U.N. General Assembly vote Thursday on a nonbinding resolution criticizing President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Emergency sessions of the General Assembly are rare, and Haley chose her Twitter account Tuesday to speak out. She says in the post, “We’re always asked to do more & give more.”

The tweet adds, “So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American ppl (people), abt (about) where to locate OUR embassy, we don’t expect those we’ve helped to target us.”

Haley, who has adopted an aggressive stance at the world body on U.S. priorities, noted the pending vote “criticizing our choice” and said “the U.S. will be taking names.”
