Casual racism is alive and well. Fortunately it now sometimes comes with consequences.

Cancelled! Now country stars can't criticize the Iraq War and they can't yell the n word either.

This seems like as good a place as any for the current Republican view of "history."

Revisionist history was being taught in a high school in Cape Coral, FL.

A video taken by a Black student appears to show a Florida high school teacher gaslighting students about slavery and the N-word, resulting in the school placing the teacher under investigation, the International Business Times reports.

A TikTok user named Hector who goes by @elnegrosabrosoo shared the video he took of his AP government class at Island Coast High School in Cape Coral, Florida. In the video, the teacher can be heard suggesting that Black slaves were not whipped by white people and that the N-word is simply an insult meaning an ignorant person or "not well-educated person."

"The N-Word just means ignorant," the teacher says. "It doesn't have any other meaning in any other vocabulary other than 'You are a stupid person. You are not well read. You are not well-educated.' That's what it means."

In a post to Twitter this Sunday, the school said that the matter is being investigated.

Cape Coral—no surprise there, I regret to say.

(About fame) Living for likes, shares and follows is a form of validation. The question is whether it is also the source of our self esteem. If it is, we’re screwed. And, culturally, it seems as if it’s become more and more our shared value. ... Meringue is no longer a sweet and pretty topping but the body itself. ~Charles Perez

The trouble is that editors and their journalists are simply employees of large profit-seeking corporations whose executives have no idea of what "truth" is; only "ratings" or "clicks" or share price. ~Rich T Bikkies, 10/1/2020

Competent people go in one of a few directions. But incompetence is infinite. ~David Brooks, NY Times
