Looks like he's Trump's lapdog after all. After getting his little puppy ass whipped over Mueller and being smacked around publicly by Trump lately he appears to be much more compliant now.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is leaving open the possibility that a special counsel could be appointed to look into Clinton Foundation dealings and an Obama-era uranium deal, the Justice Department said Monday in responding to concerns from Republican lawmakers.

In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, which is holding an oversight hearing Tuesday, the Justice Department said Sessions had directed senior federal prosecutors to “evaluate certain issues” raised by Republican lawmakers. President Donald Trump has also repeatedly called for investigations of Democrats.

The prosecutors will report to Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and recommend whether any new investigations should be opened, whether any matters currently under investigation require additional resources and whether it might be necessary to appoint a special counsel to oversee a probe, according to a letter sent to Rep. Robert Goodlatte of Virginia, the Judiciary Committee’s Republican chairman.

The letter from Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd did not say what specific steps might be taken by the Justice Department to address the lawmakers’ concerns, or whether any of the matters Republicans have seized on might already be under investigation by federal authorities.

And here we have it folks. America has devolved to the point where a sitting President can get his lackey A.G. to launch investigations of his political rival over issues that have been investigated already and where there's not even a logical description of what supposed illegal activity could have even happened. The Banana Republicanization ™ of America continues.

I wish I thought you were wrong.

Attorney General Beauregard Ob-Sessions is going after Clinton's emails again. No doubt this is more Trump fluffing so he can keep his job.

The Department of Justice is taking yet another look at former secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while in office, the Daily Beast reported on Thursday.

Citing an unnamed “ally” of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Daily Beast reported that the Department of Justice plans to examine how much classified information passed through the server, who was responsible for removing that information from a classified environment, which enforcement entities knew about these matters and when.

Just great. We have a President who is using the justice system to settle scores with those that bruised his fragile little ego and to try to smokescreen media coverage away from the fact that he's owned by a foreign government.

Former prosecutors are speaking out against Trump's complete and total politicization of federal law enforcement. It really shouldn't be a shock to anyone. It's a primary pillar of creating a fascist dictatorship.

Ziedenberg called the renewed focus on Clinton’s emails “preposterous.”

“Maybe this is being done for legitimate reasons but for appearance’s sake, it stinks,” Zeidenberg said. “The appearances are awful. The optics are horrible.”

The FBI’s hierarchical nature means that if an investigation originated from the top down, it would be difficult for agents to resist it, a former Obama Justice Department lawyer told TPM.

“You’re going to get people who will follow orders and be angry about it: ‘Okay I’ll investigate this and it’s stupid and it’s a waste of my time and I’ll do it,’” the person said.

“Because it’s a hierarchical organization there’s nobody to say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, Mr. Attorney General, your judgment is political and I’m shutting this down.’”

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment to TPM on the record about the Clinton Foundation and email inquiries.

Beauregard Sessions is a true believer but going after Clinton will also help increase his wingnut welfare benefit amount.
