Are high-end competitive sports coaching organizations the next Catholic Church? It just seems to be one after another after another...

Pedophiles like situations in which children and very young people are gathered. The way some of those organizations are set up, the dominant influences in young people's lives are the coaches and team of professionals that surround them.

True. Many, many of these elite athletes leave home and family to train. Family goes away, in favor of Olympic, even pro dreams. The athletes, themselves- although competitive and hungry to learn- often are in the middle of their own dreams and the knowledge of the expense this is to their families- ambition/guilt. Guilt/ambition. They live with local families or in dormitory-style housing. Very often, the only people they get close to are either their competitors, those who are also experiencing abuse, or a coach. In those conditions, very hard to know where to turn. So you suck it up, especially when it seems like everybody else is, too. Vicious cycle.

--- On September 17, 1787, as Benjamin Franklin was leaving the deliberations of the Constitutional Convention, at Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, a woman called out to him, saying, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”
“A republic,” Franklin said, “if you can keep it.”
