Kim continues to jerk the Trump administration around. Now he's kicking Pompeo to the curb. To be fair and knowing Pompeo I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually a perfectly reasonable position.

Quote

North Korea said Thursday that it had test-fired a new type of “tactical guided weapon,” its first such test in nearly half a year, and demanded that Washington remove Secretary of State Mike Pompeo from nuclear negotiations.

The test, which didn’t appear to be of a banned mid- or long-range ballistic missile that could scuttle negotiations, allows North Korea to show its people it is pushing ahead with weapons development while also reassuring domestic military officials worried that diplomacy with Washington signals weakness.

Separately, the North Korean Foreign Ministry accused Pompeo of playing down the significance of comments by leader Kim Jong Un, who said last week that Washington has until the end of the year to offer mutually acceptable terms for an agreement to salvage the high-stakes nuclear diplomacy. Both the demand for Pompeo’s removal from the talks and the weapon test point to North Korea’s displeasure with the deadlocked negotiations.

In a statement issued under the name of Kwon Jong Gun, director general of the American Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry, North Korea accused Pompeo of “talking nonsense” and misrepresenting Kim’s comments.

During a speech at Texas A&M on Monday, Pompeo said Kim promised to denuclearize during his first summit with President Donald Trump and that U.S. officials were working with the North Koreans to “chart a path forward so we can get there.”

“He (Kim) said he wanted it done by the end of the year,” Pompeo said. “I’d love to see that done sooner.”

The North Korean statement said Pompeo was “misrepresenting the meaning of our requirement” for the negotiations to be finalized by the year’s end, and referred to his “talented skill of fabricating stories.” It said Pompeo’s continued participation in the negotiations would ensure that the talks become “entangled” and called for a different counterpart who is “more careful and mature in communicating with us.”

Just from your brief extract from the diplomatic exchange, LFC, it looks like the NK diplomatic team wiping the floor with Pompeo and his bunch, simply by employing elementary diplomatic techniques and speaking English[1].

[1] Pompeo, John Bolton and Nikki Haley (to name but three) can and could all speak English. But Trump can't, and so they are prevented from doing so because translating as little as five words of Trumpspeak into English reveals it as bilge and gets the translator fired.

They can but Pompeo and Bolton choose not to. They verbally thump their chests and fling poop. Haley? She's ambitious but not smart enough to realize that she was jumping into a job that she was neither qualified for nor had the remotest chance of being successful at with a tantrum throwing idiot for a president. At one time I thought she might have something that could help her stand out of the frothing pack of morons. Now I see her pretty much like Lindsey Graham. They both have a moral flexibility that is not well hidden though Graham is still the master of sycophancy for money. (Nunes was a sycophant from the get-go so he doesn't get the hypocrisy points Graham has earned.)

I still think Haley has a modicum of good sense and propriety. She got out and has kept her head down ever since. Of course her way to future higher elected office is not through Trump and she quickly realized that staying in his administration would probably hurt her in the long run.

She stayed in and was Trump's parrot way too long. Here's Larison's take. It isn't generous.

A "modicum" refers only to her getting out of the situation, not to her performance. Thanks for the Larison cite. I've stopped going to TAC because it's infected with Dreher posts.

Trump the Chump has been played again, this time by both Kim and Vlad!

Quote

Smiling and upbeat, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday stepped off his khaki-green armored train in far-eastern Russia for a much-anticipated summit with President Vladimir Putin that comes amid deadlocked diplomacy on his nuclear program.

Kim, dressed in a black coat and a fedora, first met with Russian officials at Russia’s Khasan train station near its border with the North, before traveling on to the Pacific port city of Vladivostok for a summit with Putin on Thursday.

Speaking to Russia’s state-owned Rossiya-24, Kim said that he is hoping for a “successful and useful” visit and would like to discuss with Putin the “settlement of the situation in the Korean Peninsula” as well as bilateral ties with Russia.

Kim sat down with local officials as well as a Russian deputy foreign minister in Khasan before traveling on. It was his first visit to Russia as North Korean leader; his late father, Kim Jong Il, visited in 2011.

“I have heard a lot about your country and have long dreamt of visiting it,” Kim was quoted as saying. “It’s been seven years since I took the helm, and I’ve only just managed to visit.”

Kim evoked his father’s “great love for Russia” and said that he intends to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Looks like Donny was jilted by two of his love interests.

Trump's administration promised to pay $2 Million for medical bills before North Korea released Otto Warmbier.

Quote

The White House declined to comment. “We do not comment on hostage negotiations, which is why they have been so successful during this administration,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders wrote in an email.

Trump, as recently as Sept. 30, asserted that his administration paid “nothing” to get American “hostages” out of North Korea.

Not clear if anything was ever paid...maybe the result of Trump's negotiating style? Promise but not deliver? But what about "we do not negotiate with hostage takers", a standard American tough guy routine?

That's The Art Of The Deal. Make sure to stiff people on any deal you make. Especially playmates and porn stars (assuming you can still get it stiff...)

North Korea performs short-range missile tests. Trump still clings to his fantasy.

Quote

North Korea has confirmed via state media that leader Kim Jong-un has overseen a "strike drill" testing various missile components.

"A number of short-range projectiles" were also fired from the Hodo peninsula into the Sea of Japan on Saturday.

North Korea's leader gave the order of firing to "increase the combat ability" of the country, the announcement said.

US President Donald Trump tweeted he believed Mr Kim would not jeopardise the path towards better relations.

He added that the North Korean leader "knows that I am with him & does not want to break his promise to me. Deal will happen!

"I believe that Kim Jong-Un fully realises the great economic potential of North Korea and will do nothing to interfere or end it," Mr Trump posted on social media on Saturday.
