And further to my local Congresscritter, although he is deigning to hold a town hall in the largest city in his district, he decided to change the venue, ostensibly for "security reasons". (Translation: The church will keep the protesters at bay, whereas the local JuCo would have maintained the right of peaceful protesters to be in the vicinity.

I take it that the affair is invitation-only?

Because otherwise, how is the church going to keep "protesters" out? Especially if the overflow surrounds the place several deep?

Can't really tell from the article. Wouldn't surprise me --I'm anxiously awaiting my invitation (LOL).
The church is also a much smaller venue than the probable facility at the JuCo. The way the church is situated, it would be easier for their own hired security to keep the protesters off their grounds and just marching along the sidewalk.

More Congressional cowering ... and lying (which I bolded).

Quote

MSNBC’s Kate Snow asked Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) Monday why he had refused, as reported by AL.com, to hold any public town halls during the recent congressional recess.

“That gets into a definitional thing. What is a town hall?” Brooks asked. “I went to Huntsville High School in my district. I also went to a local company, Lasertel, and we had a town hall type format, where I give a Washington update and then questions and comments, whatever comes at me from people who are there.”

According to AL.com, Brooks told the group of students he met at Huntsville High: “They can ask any question they want." And the News Courier reported last week that Brooks had toured the Lasertel facility in his district.

“There are a lot of different factors that have caused me not to have any town halls, as some people interpret that phrase, and that's where it's open to anybody and everybody,” Brooks said, making air quotes around “town halls.”

“On the one hand, town halls aren't what they used to be. They used to be a forum in which citizens could come, you’d have a polite, courteous interchange of ideas, and I as a congressman would have a better idea as to what my constituents wanted, and constituents would have a better idea of what my belief system is and why I'm doing what I'm doing,” he continued.

“Nowadays with different elements from the Democratic Party, you've got the disrupters, you’ve got the Socialists, you’ve got the somewhat criminal element that’s engaged in criminal conduct at some of these types of events, you cannot have a town hall as those things used to be done."

According to AL.com, Brooks referenced four incidents of injury or property damage which had discouraged him from holding a town hall. Three of them did not occur at town hall events.

Sessions

Yet more evidence that if a protestor showed up at a gathering with a holstered firearm and a sign about watering the tree of liberty- you know, like th TPers did at Democratic town halls.in 2009, these guys would be calling for SWAT, demanding the National Guard turn out, whining about inserection, etc.

U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions faces rowdy town hall

Quote

U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Dallas, faced a raucous town hall Saturday as he sought to defend the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, among other issues that have spawned fierce opposition under President Donald Trump.

Addressing over 2,000 people, Sessions was frequently drowned out by boos and angry outbursts from the audience. Many of his answers were not entirely audible due to the crowd’s reaction as he began to speak.

“We are going to make the changes, we are going to pass the bill and we are going to repeal Obamacare,” Sessions said at one point, a declaration that gave way to sustained chants of “Vote him out!”

Gotta admit, at least he faced the crowd. Now where were these folks when it came time to vote?

I seem to recall a quote about how "nothing focuses the mind like impending death" (Raleigh ?). In this case, its nothing focuses the anger like impending loss of insurance and certain bankruptcy.

Where were they and why did the ones that voted vote that way ?

Well....

No one bothered to translate: "Market driven Medicare/Medicaid/Health care solutions" to mean: "Here's $15k, get your own insurance. Oh BTW: good luck with that you chain smoking, fried food eating dolt."

Didn't Congress get cute a while back by requiring that they get their own health care from the exchanges? How about, "the exchanges in their districts?"

Worth remembering that nobody gets 100% of the vote. You can sure get a good turnout at ta town hall of just people who voted against you - and lost.

There were pretty crowded town halls after the ACA passed, too. Although some of those WERE bussed in.

When they were so fast to attack the protesters as being bused in I should have known it's what they did. It seems like almost any attack from the right-wingers is projection anymore.

Did the protests at Republican House members town hall meetings contribute to the pulling of the health care legislation yesterday?

I think they did. It kept people's attention on the issue or maybe even caused some people to realize that something was going on in DC that they cared about. There were lots of other contributors too.

Jeff Flake (R-AZ) just took at town hall beating.

Quote

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake ® faced a hostile crowd Wednesday night when he held a town hall in Mesa, taking heat for everything from defunding Planned Parenthood to refusing to challenge President Donald Trump’s taxpayer-funded weekly trips to Florida to play golf.

Like other raucous town halls held by Republicans who have taken fire for the actions of Trump, Flake gamely tried to fend off boos and catcalls and the occasional “bulls*t” chant.

One answer that really brought out the boos was his response to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago visits when he was told to take his job “more seriously.”

“Does this concern you at all? Do you approve a budget for these weekly excursions. If yes, how much is that?” a constituent asked as the crowd cheered. “And if no, why do you have no desire to control President Trump’s spending or his personal profit from that spending?”

Flake was then booed for comparing Trump’s travel habits to former President Barack Obama.

“As I mentioned, I wasn’t critical of the last president or the president before that for what they do on their time off,” Flake tried to explain. “That’s something we will deal with when we deal with the budget, but I’m not going to tell the president where he can and cannot spend his weekends.”

Asked about never giving Obama Supreme Court Nominee Merrick Garland a hearing and a vote, Flake defended the GOP move saying there was precedent when presidents are in their last year on office, only to have a member of the crowd yell out “Bullsh*t!” to more cheers from the crowd.

Aaaaaah, Schadenfreude. They're pissing off the middle and sane conservatives by defending Trump and actually pushing some of their radical ideas. They're pissing off the Teabaggers by not pushing all of their radical ideas. They're caught in a trap of their own making, one that depended upon them forever being protected by a Democratic President or Democratic control of at least one chamber of Congress.
