Mulvaney is eyeing up the door. No surprise. After blurting out a confession of impeachable behavior to the press he's not Trump's favorite.

Quote

According to several aides and associates of President Trump who spoke to Politico, Trump’s been pressured from inside and outside the White House to find a replacement before his reelection campaigning kicks into high gear. A list of possible replacements has been making the rounds among Trump aides and allies for several weeks.

According to Politico, Mulvaney’s control over operations is dwindling and he’s not in charge of the White House’s impeachment strategy.

“He is there. I’ll leave it at that,” a Republican close to Trump told Politico. “He’s like a kid. His role at the dinner table is to be seen and not heard.”

As Politico noted, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), who announced his retirement this week, is widely believed to be in the running to replace Mulvaney, who embarrassed the White House in the early stages of Democrats’ impeachment inquiry when he essentially admitted there was a quid pro quo tied to the withheld military aid for Ukraine and then had to walk it back hours later.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm sure any employee who reports tainted meat more than once has job security.

The NYC Bar Association is calling for Bill Barr to be investigated for what basically amounts to un-American activity. Not in the Joe McCarthy bullshit sense but in the actual patriotic, constitutional, love of our democracy sense.

Quote

The New York City Bar Association has taken the extraordinary step of asking Congress to investigate Attorney General Bill Barr for being too politically biased to faithfully execute his duties as America’s top law enforcement official.

Bloomberg reports that the Bar Association is claiming that Barr’s recent statements and actions indicate that he may be enabling and encouraging “political partisans willing to use the levers of government to empower certain groups over others.”

The association also accuses Barr of disregarding “fundamental obligations in several public statements during the past few months,” including his duty to “act impartially, to avoid even the appearance of partiality and impropriety, and to avoid manifesting bias, prejudice or partisanship in the exercise of official responsibilities.”

Among the statements by Barr cited by the association to support their charges against him were his speech made last October at th

According to Bloomberg, this “appears to be the first time the New York bar or any comparable bar association has asked Congress to investigate a sitting attorney general.”

The enforcement arm of the Fascist States of Trump (formerly known as the Dept. of Justice in better days) concluded its bogus "investigation" of a grab bag of completely manufactured Hillary Clinton conspiracy theories.

Quote

A politically-driven DOJ “review” of the Clinton Foundation and other warmed-over Clinton-related stories, which President Donald Trump demanded in 2017 as the Mueller probe heated up, has essentially concluded with nothing to show for its work.

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah, John Huber, has finished the probe and found no criminal conduct to pursue, The Washington Post reported Thursday, citing unnamed current and former law enforcement officials.

The review followed an intense public push in 2017 by Trump and his allies in Congress to appoint a second special counsel — counter-programming for special counsel Robert Mueller.

If it had been a real investigation they would have told us who started these baseless lies and at least publicly held them to account even if there was no legal action that could be taken. Fortunately TPM knows who some of these people are.

Quote

Like many anti-Clinton attacks, the Uranium One story began with Peter Schweizer, the Breitbart contributor whose group, Government Accountability Institute, was founded by Steve Bannon, funded by the pro-Trump mega-donor Robert Mercer and chaired by Mercer’s daughter Rebekah.

The New York Times was heavily criticized for a 2015 article on Uranium One and the Clinton Foundation that independently built on Schweizer’s findings in his then-forthcoming book Clinton Cash, which, similarly was a wellspring of Clinton attacks.

The story spent years in conservative opposition research circles after that, from the then-Hill contributor John Solomon to a U.S.-based uranium company who cited Uranium One to appeal to the Trump administration for limits on foreign uranium imports.

“We didn’t expect much of it, and neither did he,” one unnamed person familiar with the matter told the Washington Post Thursday, referring to Huber’s review.

“And as time went on, a lot of people just forgot about it.”

Since Jared has done such an amaaaaazing job at everything else he was assigned he just got something else to do.

Quote

Jared Kushner, equipped with an amorphous professional title and razor straight hair part, has long had a laughably large portfolio.

He has been assigned chunks of policy as massive as “Middle East peace” and “reforming the criminal justice system.”

Now, per the New York Times, he’ll have even more on his plate.

Kushner is taking over the reelection effort from the White House, organizing meetings and making decisions on staff and spending. He attended meetings with campaign officials in Mar-a-Lago, and made a rare public appearance at a December campaign press event. There, he announced that he is now a registered Republican.

This means that he’ll have less time for some of the other tasks on his to-do list:

To be fair he did score his family company a bailout on their massive debt that was coming due.

More past emails from right-wing American white supremacist Stephen Miller have been released.

Quote

A new trove of emails from White House senior aide Stephen Miller shows yet again how one of President Donald Trump’s most influential policy advisers trafficked in white nationalist ideology prior to joining the Trump administration.

Hatewatch, a blog run by the Southern Poverty Law Center, published on Tuesday Miller’s emails to ex-Breitbart editor Katie McHugh that span from March 2015 to June 2016, when he served as former Sen. Jeff Sessions’ (R-AL) congressional aide.

In the emails, Miller railed against Republicans like former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Jeb Bush, who supported granting citizenship to undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children, aka DREAMers or recipients of the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“Demanding DREAMers be given citizenship because they ‘know no other home.’ That principle is an endorsement of perpetual birthright citizenship for the foreign-born,” he wrote to McHugh on March 10, 2015. “Not only will the U.S.-born children of future illegal immigrants and guest workers be made automatic U.S. citizens, but their foreign-born children will too because, as Cantor said, ‘Our country was founded on the principle.'”

Miller also wrote that Bush, who was rumored to run for president at the time, “has mastered the art of using immigration rhetoric to sound ‘moderate’ while pushing the most extremist policies.”

He then accused Bush of using “immigration to replace existing demographics,” rhetoric that mirrors the white nationalist “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory that posits white populations are being replaced by non-white ones.

Fascist dictatorship architect and defender Bill Barr is looking to protect Dear Leader's upcoming undoubtedly legally dubious campaign.

Quote

Attorney General Bill Barr said on Monday that the Justice Department is considering establishing a rule requiring the FBI to obtain his permission before opening an investigation into a presidential campaign.

“[FBI Director] Chris Wray and I have discussed a number of possibilities,” Barr replied when a reporter asked if his department was planning on changing the FBI’s process of launching probes into political campaigns.

“One of the things that we have agreed on is that the opening of a counterintelligence investigation of a presidential campaign would be something that the director of the FBI would have to sign off on, and the attorney general would have to sign off on,” he said.

Barr has boosted President Donald Trump’s accusation that the FBI opened the Trump-Russia probe out of bias against him, even after DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz thoroughly debunked that conspiracy theory in his report in December.

However, Wray backed Horowitz’s report when it was published, saying he and his agency “fully accept its findings and recommendations.”

WTF happened here? Was this guy marched out for actual security issues, was he sent packing for employment issues, or was he ousted on Putin's orders? Unfortunately these are all valid questions under the current administration.

Quote

It’s still not clear why President Trump’s third National Security Council director for Russia and Eurasia was escorted out of the White House by security last week.

But what is clear is that it’s a really big deal.

NSC director for Russia and Eurasia Andrew Peek was put on administrative leave last week amid an unspecified security-related investigation.

Steven Pifer, a former NSC for Russia and Eurasia, told TPM that he could not recall any previous instance in which an NSC director had been escorted off the premises.

“If it has, it’s very unusual,” Pifer said. “It suggests that there’s a security issue that could affect his clearance.”

A former deputy assistant secretary of state for the bureau of near eastern affairs, Peek had reportedly been under investigation for unspecified allegations before taking the position in November 2019.

Peek followed two NSC officials before him over the past 12 months who were caught up in the impeachment of President Trump.

Everything that follows sounds like a big deal.

More funneling of money into Trump's pockets.

Quote

President Donald Trump’s Doral golf resort in Miami hiked its room rates by more than double right before the White House announced Trump’s impending visit, HuffPost reports. Trump will address the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting at his own resort on Thursday. His plan to appear at the event has reportedly been in the works since mid-January, when the resort raised its cheapest nightly rate from $254 to $539. The hike could increase taxpayer costs for staff who must travel there in advance—the higher figure is just under the maximum per-night rate federal government employees can spend on a hotel in South Florida. The White House didn’t tell HuffPost how many of Trump’s team are paying to stay in the resort in the days prior and during his visit. Up to the first few days of January, Doral’s website reportedly advertised rates as low as $254 for the days of the RNC meeting, but they jumped to $459 on Jan. 13, soon after the White House first began planning for a potential Trump appearance. The next day it reportedly jumped to $539 a night.
