This is a golden opportunity for a foreign intelligence agency to make assets out of prospective appointees, given that there's a limited number of people who could be appointed and a completely uncritical Senate confirmation process.

Another one leaves after Trump demon Stephen Miller has words with her. It must be bad enough working for Trump but imagine having to answer to that ignorant racist little piece of shit?

Quote

The top U.S. diplomat to Latin America resigned this week amid tension over President Trump’s immigration policies, the Associated Press reported.

Two officials and a congressional aide who spoke to the AP offered varying rationales for Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier’s exit. The two officials said her departure was centered on family issues, but the congressional aide pointed to a difference of opinion on immigration policy on asylum with Guatemala as reason for the exit.

According to the Washington Post, which first reported Breier’s departure, the top diplomat was recently scolded in an email chain by White House policy adviser and unofficial hardline immigration reform champion Stephen Miller. Miller reportedly said Breier was not publicly defending the Guatemala asylum agreement strongly enough. The agreement requires Central American migrants to first seek asylum in Guatemala before they can do so in America.

Breier was also unhappy with the White House’s level of interference on issues related to immigration and trade with Mexico, according to the Post.

Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok are fighting back with lawsuits.

Quote

Former FBI officials Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok, who were each fired by the Trump administration after facing intense criticism from the president, both filed lawsuits against the Justice Department this week alleging unlawful political retaliation.

McCabe filed his lawsuit Thursday, arguing his January 2018 demotion from the deputy FBI director position and his March 2018 firing from the FBI were “politically motivated and retaliatory.” He added that they harmed his “reputation, professional standing, and dramatically reduced his retirement benefits.”

Just two days earlier, Strzok had filed his own suit, arguing that his firing from the FBI in August 2018 was “because of his protected political speech” and violated his First Amendment rights. Both men are seeking reinstatement of their positions and lost pay.

Both McCabe and Strzok had spent decades in the FBI before becoming involved in the politically charged investigations related to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump — and then in their individual controversies.

Even before Trump fired FBI Director James Comey and went to war with his own Justice Department in 2017, the president was fixated on McCabe due to his wife Jill’s previous unsuccessful campaign for a state Senate seat as a Democrat in Virginia. Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-VA), a longtime close ally of the Clintons, had helped her raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for her campaign.

It isn't just the toxic behaviour of the Administration. It's the shrivelled, squalid little souls that comprise it. Where do they look to find such creatures? I'll trot out my G K Chesterton quote again (Mr Justice Basil Grant, in The Club of Queer Trades): "Get yourself another soul. That thing you've got isn't fit for a dog".

More cases of Trump's brownshirts harassing those who didn't show sufficient worship of Dear Leader.

Quote

Top political appointees at the State Department “harassed” career staffers whom they suspected were members of the supposed “deep state” or were purportedly “disloyal” to the Trump administration’s goals, according to a new report from the department’s inspector general.

The report focuses on two political appointees in State’s Bureau of International Organization Affairs, which handles U.S. policy at the United Nations and other multinational bodies.

Assistant secretary Kevin Moley and senior adviser Mari Stull are named in the report as being behind much of the chaos. The report details multiple incidents in which Stull allegedly “retaliated” against State Department employees.

Stull, a former food lobbyist who blogged about wine under the moniker “vino vixen,” allegedly accused career diplomats of belonging to the “Deep State” and of “undermining the President’s agenda.” The report cites Moley as saying that Stull was joking.

Career employees told the IG that Stull referred to them as “Obama holdovers,” “traitors,” or “disloyal” at other points, focusing on allegations that she retaliated against federal workers for their personal political beliefs.

At the same time, Stull allegedly favored employees who had contributed to Republican candidates, though the IG found no evidence that the Trump appointee took any action based on campaign contributions.

“The mere discussion of them raises significant concerns as to whether Ms. Stull was engaging in political activity while on duty,” the report reads.

At another point, Stull allegedly grew annoyed at a bureau employee for escorting a delegation from the Congressional Black Caucus to the UN, because only Democratic members of Congress were present in the group.
“Ms. Stull accused the employee of trying to ‘thwart’ President Trump and undermine his agenda,” the document reads. “After the trip, many of the employee’s job responsibilities were taken away.”

The report alleges that Moley failed to prevent Stull from retaliating against employees for their supposed political beliefs. During his tenure, the report states, 50 out of 300 of the bureau’s employees departed.

Ignorance is a feature of the Trump administration, not a bug.

Quote

The science division of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) was unstaffed as of Friday as the three remaining employees departed this week, sources tell CBS News.

All three employees were holdovers from the Obama administration. The departures from the division -- one of four subdivisions within the OSTP -- highlight the different commitment to scientific research under Presidents Obama and Trump.

Under Mr. Obama, the science division was staffed with nine employees who led the charge on policy issues such as STEM education, biotechnology and crisis response. It's possible that the White House will handle these issues through staff in other divisions within the OSTP.

On Friday afternoon, Eleanor Celeste, the assistant director for biomedical and forensic sciences at the OSTP, tweeted, "Science division out. Mic drop" before leaving the office for the last time.

Kumar Garg, a former OSTP staffer under Mr. Obama, also tweeted, "By COB today, number of staffers in White House OSTP's Science Division = 0."
