This will piss off the gun nuts who need their firearms to feel manly. Open carry is all about intimidation.

Quote

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Friday issued a ban on open carry of firearms at polling sites on Election Day.

“The presence of firearms at the polling place, clerk’s office(s), or absent voter counting board may cause disruption, fear, or intimidation for voters, election workers, and others present,” Benson wrote in her directive.

Under the rule, open carry will be prohibited in a polling place or within 100 feet of its entrance and exit.

Benson said in a statement that she was “committed to ensuring all eligible Michigan citizens can freely exercise their fundamental right to vote without fear of threats, intimidation or harassment.”

“Prohibiting the open-carry of firearms in areas where citizens cast their ballots is necessary to ensure every voter is protected,” the Michigan official stated.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel backed the restriction, asserting that “an armed presence at the polls is inconsistent with our notion of a free democracy.”

The governor of Michigan has banned open carry of firearms at polling places due to their use for intimidation purposes which, of course, pisses of those who desperately want to wave their prosthetic penises guns around to intimidate people. From point #4:

The recent debate over guns in Michigan goes back a few months to a series of protests held at the state’s capitol building over COVID-19 orders. At one point, armed protesters stormed the capitol and stood over legislators as they worked, moving some lawmakers to don bulletproof vests.

Some of the men present that day were later charged in connection with the plot to kidnap the governor. In response to the protest, one Democratic legislator showed up to work a few days later with her own armed security.

And, right on cue, Trump Mini-Me is proposing drafting “anti-mob” legislation, substantial expanding “Stand Your Ground.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis has drafted “anti-mob” legislation that would expand Florida’s Stand Your Ground law — a move that critics say will allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters or anyone engaged in “criminal mischief” that disrupts a business.

Lawyers say it’s just one of the many troubling aspects of the draft bill being pushed by the Republican governor in response to police-brutality protests that erupted across Florida and the United States this summer.

“It allows for vigilantes to justify their actions,” said Denise Georges, a former Miami-Dade County prosecutor who had handled Stand Your Ground cases. “It also allows for death to be the punishment for a property crime — and that is cruel and unusual punishment. We cannot live in a lawless society where taking a life is done so casually and recklessly.”

A Florida man who questioned government authority over individuals living in the U.S. through an online forum was fatally shot, allegedly by a woman who has espoused similar “sovereign citizen” views, police said Tuesday.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Neely Petrie-Blanchard was arrested in Georgia one day after the killing of Christopher Hallett in his Ocala-area home. Witnesses to the shooting said Petrie-Blanchard accused Hallett of working with the government to deny her custody of her children.
