Hmmm. Per the map, we're in both the Western and Mountain bluebird breeding range. Hain't seen none hereabouts, though. I may have a chat with the people at Bosque del Apache -- they might be able to straighten me out.
The way a lot of catastrophes happen is that X doesn't occur because there are safeguards in place, therefore people assume X isn't a worry and they remove the safeguards. Then X happens.

Here's a checklist of the birds of Bosque del Apache with seasonal abundance ratings. Looks like they are mostly migrants here (see page 10), not extremely common (though not rare either), with some Mountains hanging in during the winter. Look for bluebirds sitting in or at the edge of open areas on wires, twigs, plant stems, and signs.

In terms of birds being capable of imitation, I always thought this video by David Attenborough was one of the best.

Holy crap! I've met this very Bald Eagle multiple times! I'm actually friends with its owner (and his wife) who appears only from behind at the start of the clip.
