You have to let them lead. R. Carlos Nakai, in Inside Canyon De Chelly took another musician (Paul Horn) and a load of recording gear down into the canyon (he could because he's a tribal member) and they made some interesting extemporaneous recordings. At one point a raven was inspired to join them so the three jammed for a bit. Interesting track (Raven Rendezvous).
Certainly I believe the wagtails seem to like interacting with people. I have a short clip of a wagtail calmly perched on my knee before it hopped onto my other knee and departed. Not before he dumped on me I might add.

I listened to Raven Rendezvous by Paul Horn https://www.youtube....h?v=iCVO4wANADM

In time the doctor knows less and less about more and more and the specialist knows more and more about less and less until ultimately the doctor knows nothing about everything and the specialist knows everything about nothing.

Mountain birds on an "escalator to extinction." This is one of the impacts of global warming that isn't nearly well documented enough.

Quote

Warmer temperatures are pushing mountain-dwelling birds ever higher as they try to stay in their comfort zone. That’s the conclusion of a group of scientists who retraced the steps of a 1985 expedition in the Peruvian Andes and documented how birds had shifted in the intervening 30 years. The new study also shows species that were already living on the ridge-top now have smaller ranges and some have disappeared altogether.

“Climate Change Causes Upslope Shifts and Mountaintop Extirpations in a Tropical Bird Community,” by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and University of British Columbia scientists, was published Oct. 25 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The researchers believe there is a high statistical probability that at least four species have been extirpated from the survey area, given the team’s extensive field searches and analyses of audio recordings. The missing birds are the variable antshrike, buff-browed foliage-gleaner, hazel-fronted pygmy-tyrant, and fulvous-breasted flatbill. None of these species is considered threatened but the research supports the idea that birds living at higher altitudes are moving even higher as a reaction to climate change, which can result in local extinctions.

As the article points out, it's a lot easier to spot in cardinals dues to the bright, gender-specific plumage.

I guess this must mean that unlike a lot of mammalian secondary sex characteristics, sex differences in bird plumage must be determined genetically, rather than hormonally. Otherwise the two sides of the body wouldn't be different.

OR? Have some big, bold hawks in the neighborhood. Yeah, I see you. F-off. Here comes my spotlight, as I had to learn when I had a tasty, tiny puppy that they circled- Oregon.

TX? Yep.
Our neighbors have a small, new pup doggie, But PLEASE. It's not why they sat on the trees, and waited. They also have chickens. Poor Oreo- one hawk got bold. Messed up the chicken coop, but good for it. Took Oreo away as a nice snack. And then the stupid hawk DROPPED the chicken breast into my yard. I only know that since my Beagle brought it in house. Not good, as those bones are like a delicacy to him- and will screw up his bowels like you've never seen.

No worries. The chicken breast had been picked absolutely clean. I got Max to drop it by offering him something so much better- corn chips! Laugh with me or at me, but he eats "clean". Corn chips can get him away from anything. :)

Meanwhile, my neighbors are a bit freaked for their dog. She's tiny. They've asked for advice. Aside from lighting up their trees, I've suggested a BB gun. Just let me know when you're shooting. I love hawks, but a fair fight is a fair fight, and you should have seen them line up...

--- On September 17, 1787, as Benjamin Franklin was leaving the deliberations of the Constitutional Convention, at Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, a woman called out to him, saying, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”
“A republic,” Franklin said, “if you can keep it.”

If you've got public schools paid for by taxpayers, you're in a socialist nation. If you have public roads paid for by taxpayers, socialist nation. If you've got public defense (police, fire, military, coast guard) paid for by tax dollars, socialist nation. If you're in a nation that has nationalized or localized delivery of services that are not paid for by users alone, you're in a socialist nation- the only question is how socialist. As I see it, we have the military pay to protecting the shipping lanes for our fuel needs which makes up very socialist. In a capitalist nation, the people supplying the oil would pay for their own defense force.
