The carbon footprint of EVs actually does pay off in most instances, but not everywhere.

This guy got a vibrator up his bum, but that wasn’t enough to send him to the ER. He simply tried on his own to remove the object by using a pair of salad tongs. Problem was… the tongs got stuck as well.

Oh, I guess it is Friday.
Pray for Trump: Psalm 109:8

"Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time - when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers arc in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.

— Carl Sagan
The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark
1995

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

— H.L. Mencken
On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”

It's a rate occurrence indeed when "vibrator" and "salad tongs" can be used in the same paragraph.

I'm afraid to ask what scale we should use to rate it.

The from-naughty-to-nice scale.

The Duggar Family Kama Sutra

Quote

THE MISSIONARY POSITION

This is perhaps the most satisfying sexual maneuver, because the wife remains in America while the husband serves as a missionary along the Amazon. Both parties receive erotic pleasure from choppy long-distance telephone conversations, in which the only understandable words are “prayer,” “antibiotic gel,” and “I’ve finally persuaded the entire tribe to wear cargo shorts and culottes, so there’s no more of that flippity-floppity.”

Yes, I did spill my afternoon tea.

Engineer Identification Test

Based on preponderance of evidence, guilty as charged.

Quote

Social Skills

Engineers have different objectives when it comes to social interactions. "Normal" people expect to accomplish several unrealistic things from social interactions:
1. Stimulating and thought provoking conversation
2. Important social contacts
3. A feeling of connectedness with other humans

In contrast to "normal" people, engineers have rational objectives for social interactions:
1. Get it over with as soon as possible
2. Avoid getting invited to something unpleasant
3. Demonstrate mental superiority and mastery of all subjects

Hilarious. Definitely engineer #3 for you! Me too for that matter, not that I pull it off that often. But I am a little unusual in that I enjoy normal #1 and #3. The clothing and dating aspects are dead on the money. And definitely keep me away from the clients!

A reaction from an engineer (of course!)

Quote

- In all seriousness, the Hindenberg was only full of Hydrogen because of politics, otherwise it would have been Helium.
- The Challenger was caused by Accountants, who thought they could save a buck by not letting the Engineers test the O-rings.
- Ditto Hubble, no testing the assembly from two cost-cutting subcontractors. No engineer would have specified cheap motors or non-standard CO2 scrubbers. The Engineers DID however, save the day with duct tape, which they brought along.
- The titanic used cheap steel, brittle at North Atlantic temperatures, and the speed was a Marketing decision.
- The Pinto was created in the first place due to Marketing. I have to admit that the Corvair was an Engineering exercise, but the swing arms were due to cost savings. Simply not our fault.

Another mark of a physicist or an engineer: we know the Greek alphabet without knowing how to read, write or speak the language.
