Husband and I were speculating about this. Was he hired just so Trump couldn't hire him as defense attorney? Is he billing his usual defense attorney hourly rate (which will probably be much higher than anything government service lawyers would ever get paid)? Is he simply advising or is he actively working the file? I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

Maybe he's bucking for US Attorney in the Southern District. Would look good on the resume.

Idle thoughts: I bet his firm didn't want to touch the Trump case because:

1. They hang around the power brokers. Probably heard enough to know Pres Trump is two steps from being fried.

2. Based on the Trump family track record, his firm wasn't going to do this pro bono.

Graduated from law school in 1975 so he could be in his late 60's. He was of counsel status so he's not an income partner anymore. For some lawyers that is just cruising along until he decides to retire. This only means he doesn't have to spend a lot of time trolling for new clients. Depending on the firm's structure he won't be making as much as an income partner but he isn't suffering. Unless it's for ego, he doesn't need to be a US Atty.

Cy Vance got a lot more than just the tax returns.

But he got more: He also obtained access to reams of work papers surrounding the tax returns’ preparation, financial statements from the Trump organization, engagement agreements, and other communications around the documents’ preparation.

The seizure marks a victory for Vance after a long battle in which the Supreme Court effectively allowed Trump to delay the state criminal investigation until after his presidential term concluded.

Court documents first reported by CNN show that the former President’s son was deposed on Feb. 11 and answered questions about a contract signed by the Trump Organization for a block of hotel rooms at the Loews Madison Hotel in Washington during the week of the 2017 inauguration.

The news of Don Jr’s deposition comes as reports show the eldest of Trump’s sons has also become increasingly embroiled in a separate criminal investigation by the Manhattan district attorney’s office into the former president and his company.

Don Jr., who serves as the Trump Organization’s executive vice president, took the reins of the family business alongside his brother Eric Trump during his father’s term in the White House.

The D.C. attorney general’s office alleges in the filing that the Trump Organization signed a contract with the Loews Madison hotel for roughly $50,000 for a block of rooms during the 2017 inauguration, and that the invoice was later forwarded to the Presidential Inaugural Committee and paid.

The filing states that Trump’s deposition “raised further questions” about the nature of the invoice and, simultaneously, revealed new evidence that defendants had not yet been able to produce.

The D.C. attorney general’s office has requested to have more time to obtain discovery materials and conduct depositions, citing “repeated obstacles,” that included “misleading testimony.”

While 10 witnesses have been deposed in the case, only three were able to testify about the Trump Presidential Inaugural Committee’s payment of the Loews Madison invoice, the attorney general’s office noted in the filing.

“These witnesses gave inconsistent accounts of the purpose of the contract and why the PIC agreed to pay it, and none of the witnesses gave a complete or accurate account of the circumstances surrounding the invoice,” the filing stated.

New York is digging deeper into the criminal activity of the Trump Organization.

State prosecutors in Manhattan who are investigating former President Donald Trump and his company are deepening their investigation into the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, The New York Times reported late Monday.

Two people familiar with the fresh focus on Allen Weisselberg, told the Times that prosecutors working for the Manhattan district attorney, Cy Vance, have been interviewing witnesses who know Weisselberg and have asked at least one witness about the financial executive’s sons Barry and Jack Weisselberg.

The district attorney’s office has not accused Weisselberg or his sons of any wrongdoing, but the heat on Weisselberg, the company’s longest serving chief financial officer, could create pressure to win his cooperation in the investigation if prosecutors find any evidence of wrongdoing that is traced back to him.

Barry Weisselberg has been the property manager of Trump Wollman Rink in Central Park, and Jack works at Ladder Capital, one of Trump’s biggest lenders who sold its Trump Organization loans to investors, according to the Times.

The development of the increased focus on Weisselberg, comes after the Manhattan district attorney’s office scored a win when the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s request to block a subpoena for his financial records.

Prosecutors are examining whether Trump and the Trump Organization tried to falsely alter property values to obtain loans and tax benefits. Prosecutors are also looking into the Trump Organization’s statements to insurance companies about the value of various assets.

In addition to potential financial crimes, the investigation has also focused on hush money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign that might involved Weisselberg.

Sing Sing is located in Ossining,** NY Still a very active prison. I doubt he would wind up there. there are several "easy time" places in the system.

I get it. They had a guy ratf**k the post office. They filled the courts with hacks. They spent a ton of money. They filed so many lawsuits. They even started a riot ! It’s so unfair that they went to all that trouble and still lost. Anonymous
