Chick Corea, jazz/fusion pianist, 79, cancer:

https://www.rollings...a-obit-1127283/

Quote

Chick Corea, the virtuosic keyboardist who broadened the scope of jazz during a career spanning more than five decades, died on Tuesday from a rare form of cancer. A post on his Facebook page confirmed the news. Corea was 79.
“Throughout his life and career, Chick relished in the freedom and the fun to be had in creating something new, and in playing the games that artists do,” his family wrote in a statement. “Through his body of work and the decades he spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions.”

Chick played with most every other great talent in jazz. He will be missed for sure.

Author Beverly Cleary, known for children’s classics such as Beezus and Ramona, 104:

Quote

She aimed her stories squarely at an elementary school audience and hoped that, by creating relatable characters, she would inspire in her young readers a lifelong love of books. Her writing was distinguished by what essayist Benjamin Schwarz of the Atlantic magazine once called her gift for “photographic and psychological exactitude.”

I remember Ramona from my childhood...trying to keep her woolen tights up around her waist...I could relate though I had cotton tights. Was pleasantly surprised to see Cleary's books still available for my daughter to read

Howard Schnellenberger, Coach of 1983 champion Miami Hurricanes, 87:

https://www.miamiher...e242605541.html

Quote

On his first day as the man in charge of University of Miami football — a moribund program that had churned through five coaches in nine years and was seriously considering dropping to a lower level of competition — Howard Schnellenberger stood before his players and predicted the Hurricanes would win a national championship. Not necessarily that season but eventually.

Nobody could have imagined he would do it within five years. Schnellenberger, the architect of the Hurricanes football dynasty and the founding father of the Florida Atlantic University football program, died on Saturday at 87, leaving behind a legacy that forever changed two South Florida universities.

The cause of death was not disclosed, but Schnellenberger had been in declining health. He suffered a subdural hematoma from a fall last summer, requiring hospitalization.
