Campus PC gone totally berserk!

I knew a National Guard Officer who was a teacher in that area of New York State. Whatever you may think of when you think "Alabama/Mississippi Rednecks" you can find them in the areas right around Syracuse. Just go south of Syracuse about 50 or so miles and you're banjo music country. He said his students had no experience with people of color or different cultures. They constantly mouthed off racist thoughts.

Bottom line: not surprised.

Quite possible this is the work of some college loony who wants to get the campus fired up. They're doing quite well.

If you've got public schools paid for by taxpayers, you're in a socialist nation. If you have public roads paid for by taxpayers, socialist nation. If you've got public defense (police, fire, military, coast guard) paid for by tax dollars, socialist nation. If you're in a nation that has nationalized or localized delivery of services that are not paid for by users alone, you're in a socialist nation- the only question is how socialist. As I see it, we pay the military pay to protect the shipping lanes for our fuel needs which makes us very socialist. In a capitalist nation, the people supplying the oil would pay for their own defense force.

Republicans continue to burnish their white supremacist credentials. First we have racist and all around creeper Stephen Miller who was forwarding white supremacy crap like crazy. The Trump administration clearly has no problem with this.

Quote

As made apparent by his Tuesday accompaniment of President Donald Trump aboard Air Force One, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller is facing no internal punishment for his leaked emails peppered with white nationalist talking points.

According to the Washington Post, the White House has defended Miller in the face of his now-public ideologies, and congressional Republicans are offering few criticisms of their own.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham bashed the Southern Poverty Law Center, which published the emails, as a “far-left smear organization.”

The Alabama Supreme Court upholds the state's grand tradition of worshipping American traitors and racists. It's kinda' there thing.

The Alabama Supreme Court directed a judge to fine Birmingham $25,000 for putting plywood up around a confederate monument, ruling the city in violation of the 2017 Alabama Memorial Preservation Act.

“This ruling appears to be less about the rule of law and more about politics,” city spokesman Rick Journey said, per ABC News. “We are carefully reviewing the opinion to determine our next step, but clearly the citizens of Birmingham should have the final decision about what happens with monuments on Birmingham city grounds.”

Municipal officers erected a plywood box to obscure a 52-foot monument inscribed with the names of Confederate soldiers. With the decision, the Supreme Court has overturned a circuit judge’s ruling that the Memorial Preservation Act violates freedom of speech protections.

More white supremacy in our judicial system. It looks like every one of these racists will be fired. Good! There's no way they can be expected to do their jobs impartially.

A class of West Virginia correctional officers in training took a group photo in which they threw up Nazi salutes.

Several government employees have been suspended over the photo and an internal investigation is ongoing, Jeff Sandy, secretary of the state’s Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, wrote in a memo Wednesday.

“I have seen the photo of Basic Training Class Number 18. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” Sandy wrote to employees in the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

“It is distasteful, hurtful, disturbing, highly insensitive and completely inappropriate.”

The department provided a copy of Sandy’s memo and a copy of the photo in question, with faces blurred, to TPM on Thursday. The Charleston Gazette-Mail first published the photo on Thursday after local news channel WCHS reported on Sandy’s memo.

In a statement to TPM, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice ® said he’d ordered the termination of “all those that are found to be involved in this conduct.”

The photo includes the caption “HAIL BYRD!”

Brian Abraham, Justice’s legal advisor, told the Gazette-Mail that was a reference to the director of the training class in the picture. Lawrence Messina, a spokesperson for the department, told TPM that “Byrd” is “a training instructor for the class.”

Pence is actively involved in the coverup.

Quote

The national security aide to Vice President Mike Pence who testified publicly before the House Intelligence Committee gave congressional investigators information about a phone call between Pence and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in September, according to a new letter from House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Schiff revealed the existence of the new impeachment evidence in a letter to Pence on Friday. According to the letter, the vice president’s office has classified the information that aide Jennifer Williams provided to investigators about the September 18 Pence-Zelensky phone call. Schiff asked Pence to declassify the supplemental testimony, saying there was no “legitimate” reason to keep the information secret.

Williams provided the House Intelligence Committee with the additional information on November 26, a week after she testified publicly. Schiff asked Pence for a response by December 11.

“The Office of the Vice President’s decision to classify ‘certain portions’ of the Sept. 18 call … cannot be justified on national security or any other legitimate grounds we can discern,” he wrote. “Having reviewed the supplemental submission, the committee strongly believes that there is no legitimate basis for the Office of the Vice President to assert that the information … is classified.”

Like clockwork when hate and bigotry rise up as a new norm Jews end up as a target. Anti-semitism is pretty much acceptable within the walls of the GOP as long as "those people" don't hear how Republicans really feel.

Quote

Many of the people who supported New Jersey’s Ocean County GOP Chairman Frank B. Holman, III are now having second thoughts as he continues to ignore calls for him to condemn antisemitic remarks made on social media by two key allies, the Shore News Network reports.

Jackson Township GOP Club President Todd Porter and Jackson Township Republican County Committee Chairwoman Clara Glory reportedly made antisemitic remarks on Facebook regarding the growth of the Orthodox Jewish community in Jackson, where Porter said he wanted to drive through Jackson Township parks blasting “death metal” and Slayer in township parks to drive out Jewish families. Glory’s remarks suggested that Jews are criminals and should be deported.

The remarks were posted to social media just days before a gunman attacked a Jersey City Jewish grocery that left six dead, including a police officer, two Orthodox Jews, and a cashier. The two attackers were also killed.

As the Shore News Network points out, the Jackson Township GOP has faced claims of antisemitism before that resulted in “resignations over insensitive remarks made by elected officials, planning board members, zoning board members, and club officials.”

I suspect this will turn out to be a hate crime.

An Indiana University fraternity was suspended over a fight and alleged anti-Semitic incidents.

The university suspended Pi Kappa Phi hours after a video circulated that appeared to show members fighting with members of the traditionally Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi, reported the Indiana Daily Student.

The video shows men reviewing security footage after the Friday night altercation, which appeared to involve about 10 men attacking one or two others while shouting slurs after denying them entrance to a party at the Pi Kappa Phi house.

Ten "men" attacking 1 or 2? Sounds about like the "manliness" I'd expect from these douchebags.

This asshat's name came up in reference to ties with right-wing extremist groups. Turns out he was deeply and directly involved with them. This is planning terrorist acts against the U.S., plain and simple. He needs to be arrested, tried, and locked away for a long, long time.

Quote

An independent investigation has concluded that Washington state Rep. Matt Shea “participated in an act of domestic terrorism against the United States” by helping plan the armed takeover of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon three years ago.

The investigation found that Shea similarly played a key role in two other armed conflicts against the U.S. government — not only by showing up and participating in the standoffs, but by helping plan them, which involved recruiting armed militia members to oppose federal law enforcement agents.

On Thursday, shortly after the report was released publicly, House minority leader J.T. Wilcox confirmed that Shea had been suspended from the House Republican caucus, a serious form of discipline. That means Shea’s access to legislative staff will be limited, and he will be barred from House Republicans’ internal meetings to discuss pending legislation.

Shea was also removed from his position as ranking member on the House Energy and Environment Committee, and taken off two other committees on which he serves.

The 108-page report, released Thursday after being posted online by Crosscut, includes several other serious findings against Shea.

Among them: that the Spokane Valley lawmaker took part in a group chat in 2017 where he “condoned violence and intimidation” of his political opponents, and offered to conduct background checks on them.

That allegation, first reported by The Guardian in April, was largely what spurred House leaders to commission the outside investigation into Shea’s conduct.

But the incident wasn’t an isolated one, according to the four-month investigation, which was led by a former FBI agent and former law enforcement officer.

The investigation says Shea, a leader of the anti-government Patriot movement, routinely encouraged his supporters to intimidate “activists, government officials, Muslims, and others who speak or act in opposition to his personal beliefs and political agenda.” Those activities occurred over a five-year period from 2014 to 2019, the report says.

The four-month investigation similarly confirmed other media reports about Shea, including that he “engaged in and supported the training of youth and young adults to fight a holy war” (also reported by The Guardian), and that he wrote a document called “Biblical Basis for War" (first reported by The Spokesman-Review).

According to the investigators’ report, Shea’s “Biblical Basis for War” document called for replacing the U.S. government with a theocracy, as well as the “killing of all males who don’t agree.”

Shea, who didn’t respond to the investigators’ requests for an interview, has previously said the biblical warfare document was merely a summary of Old Testament sermons.

Even NYC isn't safe from raging anti-semites or, as Trump would call them, "fine people." Note that these aren't robberies, just cowardly attacks.

Quote

There have been at least three physical assaults on Jewish people in New York City in the last three days that the NYPD are investigating as possible hate crimes, several news outlets have reported.

In the wake of a deadly massacre at a Jewish deli in Jersey City earlier this month, the Anti-Defamation League is offering a $10,000 reward for information related to at least one of the crimes.

The first alleged attack occurred on Monday in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and an arrest has been made, according to NBC New York. A 65-year-old man who was wearing a black yarmulke and looking at his cellphone was approached and punched in the face after a suspect made an anti-Semitic remark. The man was then kicked repeatedly after he fell to the ground. He suffered several wounds to the face, police said.

A 28-year-old man from Miami named Steven Jorge was arrested for the attack and charged with assault as a hate crime. On Thursday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed the state’s hate crimes task force to investigate the attack.

There were also several attacks against Jewish people in the city on Tuesday, according to local media. In the early morning hours on Tuesday, a 25-year-old Jewish man was harassed in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. According to reports, the man saw a large group of people walking toward him. Someone in the group allegedly shouted “fuck you Jew” and threw a Slurpie drink at the man, while someone else in the group allegedly filmed the incident as they ran off.

A second incident occurred in the same neighborhood later on Tuesday. A group of about six people came up behind a 50 year old Jewish man around 5 p.m. Tuesday and allegedly punched him in the back of the head before running off.

The Chief of the United States Border Patrol, Carla Provost, is expected to resign this month. Provost has officially been in position since August of 2018, and served as Acting Chief since April 2017.

The Border Patrol has been subject of scathing reports, including once focused on a secret Facebook page where, as ProPublica reported, “agents joked about the deaths of migrants, discussed throwing burritos at Latino members of Congress visiting a detention facility in Texas on Monday and posted a vulgar illustration depicting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez engaged in oral sex with a detained migrant.”

The page had “roughly 9500 members,” including at the time of the report, Carla Provost.

While Facebook vows that it prioritizes meaningful content, its algorithms also appear to play a role in strengthening biases. The more extreme groups we joined, the more Facebook suggested new – and often even more troubling – groups to join or pages to like. It was easy to see how users, including police officers, could be increasingly radicalized by what they saw on their news feed.

Trump, Republicans, Faux News, and the rest of the right-wing media machine are firing up the lost, broken, disaffected, violence-prone people out there. That's pretty much straight out of the ISIS low-level player recruiting playbook.

A registered sex offender in Arizona has been accused by federal authorities of threatening to kill Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), the lead prosecutor in President Trump’s impeachment trial. Jan Peter Meister, 52, allegedly said in a voicemail at Schiff’s Washington, D.C., office, “I’m gonna fucking blow your brains out you fucking piece of shit.” He told investigators he was drunk when he left the voicemail after watching Fox News and searching the congressman’s phone number on Google, court records show. Federal authorities reportedly found an AR-15-style rifle, two pistols and more than 700 rounds of ammunition in Meister’s home. He was charged with making interstate threats, which carries a maximum five-year prison sentence, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, which carries ten years.
