AMI (National Enquirer) tried to blackmail him yesterday (2/6)

His response

Quote

No thank you, Mr. Pecker

Something unusual happened to me yesterday. Actually, for me it wasn’t just unusual — it was a first. I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse. Or at least that’s what the top people at the National Enquirer thought. I’m glad they thought that, because it emboldened them to put it all in writing. Rather than capitulate to extortion and blackmail, I’ve decided to publish exactly what they sent me, despite the personal cost and embarrassment they threaten.

If you've got public schools paid for by taxpayers, you're in a socialist nation. If you have public roads paid for by taxpayers, socialist nation. If you've got public defense (police, fire, military, coast guard) paid for by tax dollars, socialist nation. If you're in a nation that has nationalized or localized delivery of services that are not paid for by users alone, you're in a socialist nation- the only question is how socialist. As I see it, we have the military pay to protecting the shipping lanes for our fuel needs which makes up very socialist. In a capitalist nation, the people supplying the oil would pay for their own defense force.

Hmmmm. There is an immunity deal between AMI and the US attorney over the Trump thing. I wonder what the structure of that deal looked like? Did it have any language that might threaten that immunity for, you know, this sort of behavior? This should be interesting.

I don't like Bezos. I don't like Pecker, either. Which horse should I back?

I wrote this last night but it got "lost" somehow.

My first thought when I read the letters from AMI was "are these people that stupid ?".

Mr Bezos said others have contacted him with basically the same scenario. They couldn't fight back because they didn't have the resources. Apparently threatening someone who can buy you, your boss, and the buildings you work and live in doesn't work.

Putting your name and the name of the entity that hired you, on an extorsion letter, is also stupid.

Rule one in shady (OK Illegal) deals: NEVER put names on anything. Rule two: never say what it is you are threatening to do. ("Nice Amazon you got here Jeff. Be a shame if anything happened to it.")

Oh boy.

If it turns out a 'government entity' was indeed responsible for accessing Bezos' phone records and releasing them, this could turn into quite a thing.

Not entirely. The "reality" shows (and game shows) are pretty cheap to make...don't pay real actors; the writers and crew don't have to be very skilled. So there is good incentive to produce them.

But people also watch the more sophisticated limited run series found on HBO, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Starz in great numbers too.

I've spelled this out in different threads/ tweets. Think I'll combine...
1. The National Enquirer was once purchased w/a loan from Frank Costello, head of a Cosa Nostra crime family. Which means, the mob owned it.
2. Donald Trump was born into a Cosa Nostra money-laundering front (see pinned thread).
3. Cosa Nostra were rolled up by the Russian mafia in the 90s ("Red Mafiya" by Robert Friedman, & a sh*t ton of other sources).
4. The Russian mob has its hooks into both AMI & Donald Trump.

The reality shows are indeed very cheap to make. And while they may not be as popular or as good as some other fare offered on 'pay tv', the margin of profit on 'free tv' even with perhaps fewer viewers, is greater. Shows produced for Netflix, Amazon (since this is a Bezos thread), etc. can be of higher quality because these have paying customers who pay for and watch exactly what they want. They don't have to depend on advertisers to both foot the bill, as well as choosing the demographic they want to appeal to. This is my impression after being a tv watcher most of my life - and with nothing to back it up. :)
